Combat Arms Seaview Regatta 2023

CASR 23 was held at the Seaview Yacht Club 11-13 Sep 23 with 20 crews from across the Royal Armoured Corps and Infantry taking part. Some had left ITC Catterick just three weeks beforehand while for others it was more like three or four decades! Experience clearly counted for a lot as the Cavalry and Guards Club teams came first and second. But it was widely commented that this was the most keenly contested CASR for a while with no team sure of a first place in any race and tight fleets. Plenty of excitement at the starts and at the marks!

Results and trophy winners below. We are in the process of finding a date for 2024 and hope to announce it within weeks.

Race Season 2023

The racing programme for 2023 has been drawn up. It is a Fastnet year and this will be the main event for White Knight 7. Maj Oli Bowen will lead a Corps representative team which will conduct several build up RORC races to prepare and qualify. A Light Dragoons crew will compete at Cowes Week 29 Jul - 04 Aug 23. The Club will combine with the Infantry Sailing Association as usual to hold the Combat Arms Seaview Regatta - please note that this event will now be held in September, not May as previously.

Offshore/Inshore Calendar:

Cervantes 29-30 Apr 23

Myth of Malham 27-29 May 23

St. Malo 07-10 Jul 23

Fastnet 22-28 Jul 23

Combat Arms Seaview Regatta 11-13 Sep 23

We are also aiming to conduct some dinghy racing this year. Interested sailors please get in touch with the RC (Dinghies). Key events are the Lagos Trophy (Inter Corps Match Racing in Laser 2000s) 04-06 Oct and the Gold Cup (Inter Services Assymetric Champs) 13-15 Sep 23. Both are very accessible for those new to racing so please don't be put off by the impressive names - all welcome.

The RACYC regularly races competitively in several offshore series, either with the Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC) or the Junior Offshore Group (JOG), as well as competing in Services competitions, such as the Combat Arms Seaview Regatta and the Army Offshore Regatta, and one-off events like the popular Three Peaks Yacht Race. There is a crewing policy to mix experienced and novice crew, so if you would like to get involved in any of the events listed, get in touch with the point of contact via the Yacht Manager.

For 2024, please note that Light Dragoons have first refusal for Cowes Week.
