  • Racing Report.  4 races have been entered so far this year, and some 23 members have thus far taken part. These were as follows:

JOG Solent race 27 Mar 10
A chilly and testing inshore start to the season, this race took WK6 around the Western Solent in some breezy conditions, matched against a fleet of some 40 other boats. The 11th place was disappointing but not surprising considering the scratch crew assembled.

    JOG Cowes-Cherbourg 3 Apr 10
This race was postponed a day due to a forecast of 45kts off the entrance to Cherbourg... Eventually we started and had an excellent race. It was mostly a beat with a delightful close reach in to the finish. We came 4th in our class of 14 yachts.

    JOG Cherbourg-Cowes 5 Apr 10
The return run from Cherbourg was also raced. The race had a cracking start in Cherbourg, in an area no larger than a football pitch bounded on two sides by harbour walls. All classes started at the same time with a close reach off the line in 16 kts and a bearing of 030 degrees to Bembridge Ledge buoy. Averaging 8 knots we flew North but the conditions suited the fleet of Sigma 38s with their longer LWL. Finally in the Solent the wind died altogether and we had a frustrating beat against the tide up the shallows on the Island shore, finishing at 0230hrs. It was good to see the flash of car headlights from the race officer as we crossed the line off Cowes! 7th place.

    JOG Deauville 28 May 10
The Deauville race is a classic overnight passage race of some 110 miles. This was the first race where the yacht was fitted with a full digital yacht PC suite with racing software. This relatively long race proved a real nailbiter with the requirement to finish in time to lock in to Deauville on a falling tide... which we made by a matter of minutes/centimetres! The usual warm welcome from the JOG team was then experienced by the crew at Deauville YC. The return delivery was perhaps even more challenging with some strong winds and most of the crew seeing their supper again. 8th place.
  • 2 Mar 10.  The RACYC AGM was held at Bovington on 2 Mar 10.  The minutes can be read here.  The slides and business plan referred to in the minutes are also available.
  • 26 Nov 09.  The following calling notices or information are available now for your information:
  • 8 Jul 09. White Knight VI, dressed overall, was officially named. The Commodore gave a short speech and thanked all those who had helped in the purchase of her and the sale of her predecessor. Mrs Rutherford-Jones, wife of the Army Sailing Association commodore, conducted the naming ceremony. Click here to see photos.
  • The first White Knight, a Rustler 31, owned by the Club from new (1966-1978) has a new owner. She is based at Poole Yacht Club and is still named White Knight. Photos of her after her 2008 refit are in the photo album here. Her new owner attended the 2009 AGM as a guest of Maj "Oggie" Hoare, at which event Maj Hoare presented the Club with a framed jigsaw puzzle of White Knight sailing in Cowes Week in 1970(?), with a 14/20H crew and their Colonel-in-Chief, HRH Princess Anne. It is hanging in the Club room in the west wing of the Bovington mess.
